The Hungry Zone is funded by a number of organisations:

Wellcome Trust

The Wellcome Trust are the UK’s largest charity. Wellcome are dedicated to achieving extraordinary improvements in human and animal health. They support the brightest minds in biomedical research and the medical humanities. Wellcome’s public engagement grants are intended to promote interest, excitement and debate around science and society.

AMRC are the national membership organisation of leading medical and health research charities.

They help their members to meet their charitable objects by interpreting and influencing the regulatory, policy and research environments, and connecting members to encourage collaboration and share learning. Their vision is charities delivering high quality research to improve health and wellbeing for all.

AMRC members support over one third of all publicly-funded medical research in the UK. Their members invested over £1.2 billion in health research in the UK in 2012. Many of these charities exist because the public choose to donate money to support research to develop new treatments and cures.

Central YMCA

Central YMCA is the UK’s leading activity for health charity and is also the world’s first YMCA, established in 1844. They champion the benefits of health-based activity through advocacy, education and direct delivery. They’re distinctive among YMCAs for combining both a health and an activity focus, and working in the creative arts through theatre performances. They also work internationally and nationally, as well as on a local level.

Their delivery is principally through five operations: they run a thriving health and fitness club, the landmark Central YMCA Club in central London Central YMCA Qualifications.

They operate the UK’s leading exercise and fitness, government approved qualifications awarding-body, CYQ; they address health inequalities and provide a wide range of activities at One KX, a unique arts and health centre serving the community of King’s Cross in London; they engage creatively with young people and adults through Y Touring, an award-winning national touring theatre company; they’re recognised for providing ‘gold standard’ professional fitness and health training through their subsidiary charity, YMCAfit – YMCA Fitness Industry Training.
