A healthy diet is a balance of the 5 different food types.
Fruit and vegetables – aim for at least 5 different ones a day.
Starchy foods, such as bread, rice, potatoes and pasta. Choose wholegrain varieties whenever you can, or eat potatoes with their skin on for more fibre. Chips are a starchy food but they are fried in animals fat making them not quite as healthy.
Meat, fish, eggs and beans.
Milk and dairy foods.
Foods containing fat and sugar – this is the smallest group
And plenty of water – aim for 8 glasses a day
