Weight gain is caused by taking in more energy from food than you burn off through movement and living.
So if you dont eat more Kcal from food than your body requires that day you will not gain weight. But fast food does not have all the nutrition you body needs ( vitamins/ mineral/ good quality protein) and is normally high in fats and sugars which can do damage to your body in the long term.
You can starve yourself by eating lots of fat and sugar but no vitamins and minerals. When Captain Scott went to the pole and they all died on the journey back this was largely because they didn’t know about vitamins and minerals and didn’t have a sufficient diet to give them the energy to get home.
